Someday We'll Know

"Someday We'll Know" is a song by the New Radicals. It was released in May 1999 as the second single off their album Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too and the follow-up to the smash "You Get What You Give". The single did not fare as well as the previous single, in part due to the announcement of lead member of the band Gregg Alexander stating that the New Radicals "[would] no longer be a recording, promoting, or performing entity" and that he would focus on producing and writing material for other artists. This announcement came just as the music video was being produced for the song and the statement that "the fatigue of traveling and getting three hours' sleep in a different hotel every night to do boring 'hanging and schmoozing' with radio and retail people is definitely not for me" effectively stopped all promotion of the song.

Content

It is a midtempo ballad about lost love and regret, in which the singer asks a series of rhetorical questions and compares them to the end of his relationship, suggesting that issues of love and breaking up pose questions that will never be answered. For the line, "I'm speeding by the place that I met you for the 97th time tonight," which has led some to erroneously interpret the song as the account of an obsessive stalker, Alexander used the number 97 because of the year the band formed.

Be Together

"Be Together" is a song from Japanese band TM Network, written by Mitsuko Komuro and composed by Tetsuya Komuro, it was included in their fifth album Humansystem. Despite the fact that it wasn't released as a single and was not popular at its initial release, the 1999 cover made by Ami Suzuki the song became very popular in Japan, and it has since been covered by several artists.

Scandinavian artist Ni-Ni created a cover of "Be Together", which was included in the video game Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix, and is also featured on her album Mermaid among her most popular songs. Another version exists by the band Attention Deficit, featuring rapper MC Chris. In 2010 it was also covered by voice actor and singer Minori Chihara for the anime series Occult Academy.

Ami Suzuki version

"Be Together" was released as the seventh single by J-pop singer Ami Suzuki, on July 14, 1999. It was produced by Tetsuya Komuro (formerly of TM Network, who had originally released the song). The song was used in TV commercials of Mos Burger, and it became one of the most popular songs of 1999 in Japan.

Someday We'll Be Together

"Someday We'll Be Together" is a song written by Johnny Bristol, Jackey Beavers, and Harvey Fuqua and made popular as the last of twelve American number-one pop singles for Diana Ross & the Supremes on the Motown label. Although it was released as the final Supremes song featuring Diana Ross, who left the group for a solo career in January 1970, it was recorded as Ross' first solo single and Supremes members Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong do not sing on the recording. Both appear on the B-side, "He's My Sunny Boy."

The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart for one week. Reaching number-one on the American pop chart in the final 1969 issue of Billboard magazine (dated December 27), the single was not only the final number-one in 12 chart-topping pop hits for The Supremes, but it also holds the distinction of being the final American number-one hit of the 1960s.

Background

Original version

The song was written by Johnny Bristol, Jackey Beavers, and Harvey Fuqua in 1961; and Bristol and Beavers recorded the song together as "Johnny & Jackey" for the Tri-Phi label that same year. "Someday" was a moderate success in the Midwestern United States, but gained little notice in other venues.
